FAQs

1

WHAT IS SOMATIC THERAPY?

Somatic therapy is a body-centered approach to healing that recognizes the connection between your mind, body, and nervous system. Rather than focusing only on thoughts, we gently explore how stress, trauma, and emotions are experienced in the body. Through mindfulness, breath, movement, and body awareness, you'll learn to regulate your nervous system and reconnect with yourself in a way that feels safe and supportive.

2

DO I HAVE TO DO YOGA?

Not at all. While I integrate principles of trauma-informed yoga when appropriate, no yoga experience is required. Sessions are tailored to your comfort level and may include simple breathing exercises, grounding techniques, mindful movement, or simply noticing sensations in your body while seated.

3

WHAT HAPPENS DURING A SESSION?

Every session is unique because every person is unique. We begin by talking about what's bringing you in and what you're experiencing. Together, we'll explore both your thoughts and your body's responses, using gentle somatic practices when appropriate. You'll leave with practical tools you can use in everyday life to feel more grounded and connected.

4

HOW IS SOMATIC THERAPY DIFFERENT FROM TALK THERAPY?

Traditional talk therapy focuses primarily on thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Somatic therapy includes those elements while also helping you notice how your body holds stress and responds to life's experiences. Healing isn't just about understanding your story—it's also about helping your nervous system feel safe enough to move forward.

I'VE EXPERIENCED TRAUMA. IS THIS THERAPY SAFE?

Yes. My approach is trauma-informed, which means we move at your pace. You are always in control of the process. We focus on building safety and resilience before exploring difficult experiences. There is never pressure to revisit memories before you're ready.
